The Margaret Jenkins Dance Company (MJDC) is seeking a dependable, team-oriented individual to join us this spring as our Event Manager for Encounters Over 60 and our 50th Anniversary Celebration.


This is a part-time temporary role from Jan 5 - May 12, paid at a rate of $35 per hour. We expect a minimum of 20 hours per week, with up to 40 hours per week from May 20-June 19. This role will be primarily on-site at rehearsals and performances. Those interested should be able to work a flexible schedule that includes some evenings and weekends, and must be based in the Bay Area. MJDC is requiring all staff to provide proof of vaccination for employment.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the Artistic Director during rehearsals & tech, including: managing audio/visual equipment, coordinating schedules, recording rehearsals & uploading footage, managing snacks and meals for the artists, and documenting payroll hours.

  • Provide transportation for the international artists to/from rehearsals as needed.

  • Prepare rehearsal and performance spaces, including moving equipment, maintaining first-aid supplies, assisting with placing and clearing costumes, props, music instruments, and/or other scenery elements. Perform closing duties as needed to reset spaces for future usage.

  • Assist with costume maintenance & management, including: laundering and steaming costumes between shows, organization of costume storage, and support with minor repairs.

  • Support marketing team by helping generate social media content, assisting with outreach events, distributing marketing materials as needed, and brainstorming ways to bring awareness to the project.



  • Detail-oriented and resourceful, able to take instruction and take initiative when appropriate.

  • Outgoing and friendly personality with excellent communication skills – expresses oneself clearly, thoroughly, and professionally.

  • Ease in interacting with diverse groups of people including international artists with limited English speaking skills.

  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends.

  • Able to multitask and show consistent follow-through on activities, while working under time constraints and pressure.

  • Ideal candidates have 3+ years working in performing arts management, or comparable event/company management related experience.

  • Familiarity with Apple & Google software, social media platforms, and running standard A/V equipment.

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.

  • Have a valid driver’s license and comfortable driving for work-related activities (Vehicle ownership is not necessary).
