Job Opportunity: Company Manager

The Margaret Jenkins Dance Company (MJDC) is seeking a Company Manager for the 2021/22 season, towards the June 2022 premiere of “Global Moves,” a multidisciplinary new work gathering artists from China, India, Israel, and the US to explore the current wave of xenophobia. During this season, the MJDC will also be celebrating 50 years of artistry, innovation and leadership within the San Francisco Bay Area dance community.

This is a part-time position, beginning June 2021 and continuing through June 2022, with the possibility of extension based on touring opportunities.

  • June 2021 - March 2022: 10-12 hours/week

  • April 2022 - June 2022: 24-40 hours/week

$22-$27 / hour (salary commensurate with experience)

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the Artistic Director and Assistant to the Director during the rehearsal process, including: running audio/visual equipment, managing schedules, documenting rehearsals & uploading footage, recording payroll hours, and managing Zoom calls with international collaborators.

  • Support the Artistic Director and Performers during tech rehearsals and performances, including: keeping performers updated on scheduling, helping with transportation planning, and coordinating snacks and meals.

  • Collaborate with the Managing Director on event production logistics, including: communicating with performance venues & presenters, organizing travel arrangements & transportation, maintaining production calendar and scheduling, and supporting international artists with travel & visa arrangements.

  • Manage press relations, marketing, and outreach, including: generating and overseeing social media content, assisting with outreach events, and brainstorming ways to bring awareness to the project.

  • Prepare rehearsal and performance spaces as needed, including moving equipment, cleaning/sanitizing of surfaces and performance area, maintaining first-aid supplies, assisting with placing and clearing costumes, props, music instruments, and/or other scenery elements. Perform closing duties as needed to reset spaces for future usage.

  • Assist the Costume Designer with costume maintenance & management, including: scheduling fittings, laundering and steaming costumes between shows, organization of costume storage, and support with minor repairs.

  • Implement COVID-19 protocols during all activities as needed, such as monitoring mask usage and performing temperature checks.


  • Minimum of 3 years management experience in the performing arts, or similar event/company management related experience.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, a positive work attitude, excellent oral & written communication, and ease in interacting with diverse groups of people including international artists with limited English speaking skills.

  • Comfortable with coordinating a volume of activities with multiple components, each requiring independent follow through, while anticipating areas of concern and maintaining attention to detail.

  • Comfortable in a multi-tasking environment with frequent interruptions and short deadlines, and at times a high degree of pressure.

  • Proficient digital media skills, particularly in operating video equipment and streaming software.

  • Familiarity with Mac, Google, and social media platforms, including Google Office, video editing software, music editing software, Facebook and Instagram.

  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally.

  • Have a valid driver’s license and comfortable driving for work-related activities (Vehicle ownership is not necessary).
