This spring, the Margaret Jenkins Dance Company (MJDC) brings back the popular speaker series “Leaders at the Lab: Conversations with Working Artists” to the Margaret Jenkins Dance Lab in San Francisco. Artistic Director, Margaret Jenkins will host a conversation with national and local leaders in the dance field about the innovative models and career choices they have developed to stay inspired and thrive. Each salon-style discussion will include a question and answer period with the audience and be followed by a reception.
The MJDC is pleased to announce that the opening speaker of the 2010 Leaders at the Lab series is David Gordon, a dancer, choreographer, writer and theatrical director prominent in the world of postmodern dance and performance. Mr. Gordon is also serving as the first Artistic Chair of the MJDC’s new national mentorship exchange program, CHIME Across Borders.
David Gordon, a native of New York City, performed in the companies of James Waring and Yvonne Rainer in the 1960’s. He was a founding artist in the Judson Church Theater and The Grand Union. A twice-recognized Guggenheim Fellow, Gordon has choreographed dances for, among other companies, American Ballet Theatre, Dance Theatre of Harlem and Mikhail Baryshnikov's White Oak Dance Project.
